Red Cross Assistance Available at Local Assistance Center for French Fire

The American Red Cross continues to provide help and hope to people facing the difficult task of picking up the pieces after the French Fire. 

Red Cross teams continue to work closely with local officials to help to assess the damage left behind and make plans for what support families may need. This Friday and Saturday, in partnership with Kern County Office of Emergency Services, Red Cross disaster recovery caseworkers will be staffing the Local Assistance Center in Kern County. 

Recovering from a disaster can be a confusing process, and it’s not always easy for survivors to find the help they need. This resource center will bring community organizations involved in recovery efforts together in one location. At this site, people can learn about available services and programs to help them rebuild their lives. 

The Kern County Local Assistance Center will be open at Faith Community Church located at 20 Panorama Drive in Wofford Heights. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, September 10 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 11. The Red Cross plans to offer recovery assistance, distribute relief supplies and provide emotional support. 

Since the French Fire began, the Red Cross has provided more than 290 overnight shelter stays in Kern County. With the help of partners, we’ve served more than 1,740 meals and snacks, and distributed more than 65 relief items, such as comfort kits and cleaning supplies.
