Home Fire Campaign Enhances Life Safety

When Christina Adame contacted the Oxnard Fire Department seeking assistance with smoke alarms for her home, they referred her to the local Red Cross chapter. Understanding the urgency of her request, the response was swift. Volunteers Amanda and Drew Haver, dedicated Mass Care Team members, and Steve Medina from the Disaster Action Team promptly visited Christina’s residence. Their visit resulted in installing four brand-new smoke alarms, significantly enhancing the safety of Christina’s home.

The impact of the Red Cross team’s actions left Christina filled with gratitude and admiration. She expressed her appreciation, saying, “You are literally life savers.” Christina’s words reflect her relief and the heartfelt gratitude homeowners feel throughout our community. The Home Fire Campaign continues to make homes safer, one smoke alarm at a time.

“You are literally life savers,” said Christina Adame, reflecting her feelings of relief and heartfelt gratitude for the smoke alarms installed in her home.

The Red Cross, in collaboration with the Home Fire Campaign and the U.S. Fire Administration, is making significant strides in improving home safety and reducing fire-related fatalities in Oxnard, and across the country. With approximately 3,700 deaths in the United States each year due to fires, the need for proactive measures to protect communities becomes evident. The recent efforts of the Red Cross in our community have highlighted their commitment to this cause.

Recognizing the importance of smoke alarms in preventing fire-related tragedies, the local chapter of the American Red Cross has taken continual action. Through the Home Fire Campaign, the Red Cross has installed smoke alarms in homes lacking or with outdated smoke alarm systems. Christina Adame is just one of the beneficiaries of these life-saving initiatives.

The American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign is a nationwide initiative to reduce home fire-related fatalities and injuries. The campaign strives to make communities safer and more resilient by installing smoke alarms, providing fire safety education, and developing escape plans.
